LINUS!

Tonight I was really impressed with the local band Girlfriends. They seemed to have everything really well orchestrated and balanced. Played a really good show tonight at Next Door. Super enjoyed the roots reggae between bands. Always fun to play shows at Next Door. Dipped into some nice house music at SOHO with DJ Kentaro. Might go into the studio tomorrow to do some light construction. Installing security bars. Happy bday Moani.

We’re currently rehearsing 7 songs endlessly. We need to iron out all the kinks in the orchestration before we head into the studio to get these songs on disc. In the meantime I’ve got a backlog of songs brewing. Can’t wait to practice this weekend. Still in the old studio but planning to hang out at the new studio after the show on Saturday. Today Jack, Jun and I applied the final coats of paint at the studio. Mini pow wow yielded some good ideas. Still looking for a couch, mini fridge, and some folding chairs. Got extra furniture, email me. Working on the HARA promotional material tonight. CD sales are phenomenal. Seems like our fans have been eagerly waiting for this new CD to drop. Ran into Justin at HH as we were leaving today. Energy running high. Can’t wait till the PA system arrives.

Quite a day so far. Spend the morning and afternoon constructed sound panels for the studio. Click on the pic for a closer look. They came out really nice! Next up, a quick bite before rocking the house at Red Lion (University) @ 10 pm. We are going to play 8 songs or so. And perhaps most importantly, we are finally selling our brand new album, “White Marks on a White Wall”! Took a day off from work to put some quality time into the LinusHQ. Paid off big. Thanks E for hooking it up with the truck. Transported the bulk of the mats to the studio, along with green paint for some serious rolling. Might add another coat if needed.

This new studio is really costing a lot and causing us to invest more and more time into making it as productive, stylish, and acoustically sound as possible. We’re trading emails in a frenzy. Planning a pow wow once things settle down. Hold on, they won’t. Need to find time to practice, do some light carpentry, and have the carpets cleaned. Planning to make dust jackets for my vintage gear. Working on the WMWW flash player now. I like this pace.

This is how sound panels are born...

After Dave dropped off the precious cargo (see previous post), I headed out with my brother to purchase/pickup a box of raw material. 4 feet x 2 feet x 2 inches times 12 = the first phase of sound treating the Linus HQ. Going to take some work, but the room should be rock ready in about a 2 weeks. Stay tuned for more photos.

Today, during my lunch break, I dropped off a box of 160 CDs to Nik. He’s planning to mail out a few CDs to review sites, local newspapers, and an enterprising filmmaker. Finally got my copy of the LINUS studio key. Super stoked to finally have a consistent place to write, rehearse, and hang out. Bonus points for being downtown!

Played a show this weekend at Anna Bananas and wanted to post about the process. Wasn’t sure what to expect from our output. We rehearsed the entire set a couple of times at the last practice. Jun’s in Japan so he’s been out of the loop for the past week. At the last show I put as much effort as possible into keeping the flow under control. The feedback after our set was enough to indicate that the process is working. Tons of good feedback from our last show. Looking forward to going downtown tonight with Nik to check out the new LINUS studio in the Blaisdell Hotel. I’ve heard that the place is haunted. I ran into a few late night tenants, each one offering a different ghost story.

Checked on the UPS tracking number I got from Discmakers. The CDs have arrived on the island. According to the tracking number 4 boxes of the new LINUS CD WMWW are sitting in the UPS distribution center near the airport. Rather than coordinate my work schedule around the dubious delivery time, I called UPS and requested that they keep the CDs at the distribution center so I could pick them up after work. Getting tons of show requests. Need to coordinate the upcoming shows / LINUS HQ repairs / layout / gear setup. All in all, progress is progress. Still moving forward in 2010.
