LINUS!

First a quick explanation behind these photos. We played a show the night before. Everyone went out afterward and woke up at 6am to get to Hawaii Kai to take these shots at AD’s. I’m surprised we all caught the sunrise. Super stoked on these preliminary shots Justin from Human Hand sent us. If this is what the B roll came out like, I can’t wait to see the photos Art took. Thanks again Justin and Art for taking the time to hang out with us and snap these shots. Luckily the L popped after we took all the shots! Can’t wait to practice this weekend before the show at Next Door on Saturday.

Get yo mix on! The studio is coming along nicely. A critical piece of gear has shipped, and the band is eagerly anticipating its arrival. More good stuff to come! Also, don’t forget about the following crucial LINUS! updates:

Today Jack, Jun and I applied the final coats of paint at the studio. Mini pow wow yielded some good ideas. Still looking for a couch, mini fridge, and some folding chairs. Got extra furniture, email me. Working on the HARA promotional material tonight. CD sales are phenomenal. Seems like our fans have been eagerly waiting for this new CD to drop. Ran into Justin at HH as we were leaving today. Energy running high. Can’t wait till the PA system arrives.

This new studio is really costing a lot and causing us to invest more and more time into making it as productive, stylish, and acoustically sound as possible. We’re trading emails in a frenzy. Planning a pow wow once things settle down. Hold on, they won’t. Need to find time to practice, do some light carpentry, and have the carpets cleaned. Planning to make dust jackets for my vintage gear. Working on the WMWW flash player now. I like this pace.

Today, during my lunch break, I dropped off a box of 160 CDs to Nik. He’s planning to mail out a few CDs to review sites, local newspapers, and an enterprising filmmaker. Finally got my copy of the LINUS studio key. Super stoked to finally have a consistent place to write, rehearse, and hang out. Bonus points for being downtown!

Played a show this weekend at Anna Bananas and wanted to post about the process. Wasn’t sure what to expect from our output. We rehearsed the entire set a couple of times at the last practice. Jun’s in Japan so he’s been out of the loop for the past week. At the last show I put as much effort as possible into keeping the flow under control. The feedback after our set was enough to indicate that the process is working. Tons of good feedback from our last show. Looking forward to going downtown tonight with Nik to check out the new LINUS studio in the Blaisdell Hotel. I’ve heard that the place is haunted. I ran into a few late night tenants, each one offering a different ghost story.

Checked on the UPS tracking number I got from Discmakers. The CDs have arrived on the island. According to the tracking number 4 boxes of the new LINUS CD WMWW are sitting in the UPS distribution center near the airport. Rather than coordinate my work schedule around the dubious delivery time, I called UPS and requested that they keep the CDs at the distribution center so I could pick them up after work. Getting tons of show requests. Need to coordinate the upcoming shows / LINUS HQ repairs / layout / gear setup. All in all, progress is progress. Still moving forward in 2010.

Much Mahalo to the many friends/fans that turned up this past Saturday at Anna Bananas. The vibe was jovial, and the show was memorable. We hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did! Some of my fellow EMBA classmates came out in support as well; very cool.

With 1 month in the books, 2010 is shaping up to be an epic Linus year. Today we get the keys to our new studio space! Before/After pics to follow (once we whip it into shape).

And last but not least… Our 2nd CD is arriving this week!!! The minute those boxes show up, we’ll be sure to post about it (with photos). Stayed tuned.

Lots of hard work ahead of us, but it will all be worth it! Linus gets the keys to our new studio space in the old Blaisdell Hotel at noon on February 1st. Going to be a MAJOR undertaking, but the results are sure to be worth it.

If you have any ideas or experience in acoustics, please let us know. We are looking to purchase a solid (used) PA system, more microphones, stands, various other hardware, etc.

First order of business: get the room ready for a launch party!

We started recording all of the practices. It’s been really helpful to get all of the material together quicker. Just watched a documentary on the making of Dark Side of the Moon on Netflix. During one shot, they panned over these grids with notes in them. I think we’re going to start writing like that. We started practicing to a click track.
